Alina Nuebel “Morning Glory”

The Artist With All the Buzz - Alina Nuebel

The Glass Wing of the Month is not normally written in the first person, but I’m changing the rules for a quick sec. So here we go…

I first got to know ALina Nuebel almost 3 years ago after the universe (also named Jennifer Mygatt Tatum, see Jan issue) brought us together. Alina and I to made up two pieces of a trio that would spend a full year of our lives repainting 14 walls of Amarosa Academy in Santa Rosa. The project ended up being titled ‘See You On the Other Side’, and honestly I cannot believe we got there.

Alina would give me advice on navigating the art world, and I would update them on the happenings of pop culture. I cannot tell you which is more valuable, advice that I will remember forever or a good movie/show recommendation. Sure I now know how to set boundaries and get the money my art is worth, but Alina has finally seen PeeWee’s Big Adventure. I think we’re all winners here.

Throughout that year together I feel as though I got to know Alina quite well. What I learned about Alina the Person made the work by Alina the Artist make so much sense and be even more amazing. Their works are beautifully replicated local sceneries and extremely cropped portraits of foliage you probably walk past everyday and don’t give a second thought. And don’t even get me started on the bees. Actually, don’t get Alina started on bees. Or do, if you're looking to be absolutely schooled. Bring out your composition notebooks and chewed up pencil, because Alina puts their biology degree to use whenever possible.

Thank you Alina, for BEE -ing a the teacher I needed, the friend I didn’t know I had, and a f***ing amazing artist.
